Serving El Paso: Meet Physiatrist Dr. Michael Mrochek
When Michael Mrochek, M.D., was in high school, he had one clear goal for his future — become a doctor. He dedicated every step forward in his education to reaching this goal and using his skills to help others.
Pursuing a Medical Career
After graduating college at age 22, Dr. Mrochek went on to medical school at the University of Tennessee College of Medicine, completing his degree by the time he was 26 years old. He immediately went on to complete his internship at William Beaumont Army Medical Center, followed by his residency in physical medicine and rehabilitation at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center.
Prior to serving in El Paso, Dr. Mrochek practiced medicine in the U.S. Army at Fort Bliss. During his time there, he came to love El Paso and decided to settle down in the community with his family and continue his practice here. Today, he focuses on physical medicine and rehabilitation as Sun City Orthopaedics’ physiatrist. He is certified by the American Board of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation — including in the subspecialty of neuromuscular medicine — and by the American Board of Electrodiagnostic Medicine.
Serving El Paso Through Medicine
Much of Dr. Mrochek’s practice is focused on the underserved community in El Paso. He is dedicated to helping ensure his patients have access to the care they need. His specialties include occupational medicine, the treatment of osteoporosis, electromyogram and nerve conduction study, and musculoskeletal medicine.
Additionally, he focuses much of his time on impairment ratings to assess patients for workers’ compensation or insurance company independent medical exams. Dr. Mrochek has a medical legal practice, using his medical knowledge to help patients understand their rights.
He enjoys serving the El Paso community through his work at Sun City Orthopaedic and Hand Surgery Specialists. “I like that we have a small, cohesive team that works well together,” he said. “Additionally, we can handle therapy in-house.” This benefits patients who can receive the care they need in one location.
There’s an added benefit of working at Sun City — he gets to work alongside his wife who has provided clerical support for the office for four years. They continue to enjoy living in El Paso and being part of the community. The Mrocheks have two grown children who live in the greater Texas area.
